This paper reports that at the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, a 470 MWe pressurized water reactor, entries into the reactor containment while at 100% power are frequently made for maintenance. An algorithm has been developed for the Panasonic UD-809 TLD to break out the thermal dose component of the neutron energy spectrum on one element, while the remainder of the neutron dose is developed from two other elements in the dosimeter. Breaking out the thermal neutron dose component is important because, while it represents only 12% of the total Deep Dose Equivalent, it composes 50% of the neutron flux. This high thermal flux would cause a Panasonic UD-802, or equivalent albedo dosimeter, to over-respond by 40 to 50 percent of the true neutron Deep Dose Equivalent.
