Landfill gas - a viable energy source

Conference · · Trans. Am. Assoc. Cost Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5582872

The anaerobic decomposition of organic landfill refuse produces a landfill gas (LFG) that is about 50% methane with a heating value half that of natural gas. Projects to tap LFG for direct combustion, to generate electricity, or to produce natural gas or methanol fuel should have several environmental benefits. 1 figure, 1 table. (DCK)
