The success of a cogeneration system installed at the LaGuardia Airport Holiday Inn in producing electricity and hot water will determine if the idea is viable for 230 other Inns. Cogenic Energy Systems will supply capital for the project, which Holiday Inns may purchase if the 41% anticipated drop in electricity bills occurs. Cogenic estimates payback periods between 2.5 and 3 years. Holiday Inns has a five-year contract to buy electricity at the avoided-cost rate of Consolidated Edison Co. (DCK)
