C/sub 1/ through C/sub 5/ hydrocarbons in the atmosphere by gas chromatography

A gas chromatographic method for the determination of C/sub 1/ through C/sub 5/ hydrocarbons in the atmosphere at a lower limit of concentration of 0.01 ppM is described. If 100 ml of the gas is concentrated in a freeze trap, the detection limit can be extended to 0.1 ppB. Seventeen hydrocarbons can be eluted in 16 min. The chromatographic analysis is carried out on a single packed column operating isothermally at O/sup 0/C. Flame ionization is used for the actual determination. The precision of the method is given as +- 10% relative standard deviation. (BLM)
