In safety assessment of engineering structures, vagueness type uncertainties exist in defining certain structural performances, conditions, parameters and their inter-relationships. In this paper, based on the theory of fuzzy gets, a fuzzy definition of fatigue failure is introduced into fatigue reliability assessment for tubular joints of offshore structures. Based on the fuzzy failure definition together with the lognormal format for fatigue reliability assessment of tubular joints, the probability of fatigue failure is estimated. The principles described in this paper also apply to fatigue reliability assessment of other structures or structural reliability assessment related to failure states other than fatigue failure.
