The Longitudinal Socioeconomic Monitoring Study was conducted to compare actual socioeconomic changes which accompany the construction of coal-fired electric powerplants with those projected in impact statements. Emphasis was on collecting primary data. Three surveys were conducted: (1) a household survey; (2) a business survey; and (3) a project survey. The results are summarized in five documents. Vol. I - Summary compares socioeconomic changes in McLean Co., ND and Platte Co., WY with those predicted for each county, with each other and with changes in two nonimpacted counties; Kimball Co., NE and Wheatland Co., MT. The purpose of the analysis is to estimate types and magnitudes of socioeconomic changes which occur under the condition of large scale energy development.
