A cathodic protection system for Alaska's other pipeline, which runs from Tesoro Petroleum Corporation's refinery at Nikiski, on the Kenai Peninsula, to the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, then 22 km underwater to Anchorage, and again on land to the Tesoro Storage Terminal at the Port of Anchorage, consists of an impressed-current, deep-anode system along the entire 110 km of the products lines. The cathodic protection requirements, as determined by Gulf Interstate Engineering Company from a simulated current test, included a high bond-strength coating, a maximum current of 0.43 ma/sq m of pipeline external surface, and a maximum design life of 15 y; the total current requirement was estimated at 40 amp. A post-installation survey confirmed that the cathodic-protection system for the Nikiski pipeline was operating precisely in accordance with the design.
