Prospective expansion - black coal industry: Australia - New South Wales

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5572573
The Australian coal industry is being called on to play an important role in meeting the demand for energy, both locally and overseas. The industry has a sound foundation on which to build. Both New South Wales and Queensland have large resources of black coal which are relatively accessible and which include coals suitable for most applications. The industry uses modern mining methods and productivity is high. The study found that demand in the export market could grow even more rapidly than demand in the local market. Coal importers will be looking to Australia to supply at least 115 M tonnes in 1990 and possibly as much as 180 M tonnes.
