A superdeformed band of twenty transitions has been found in {sup 142}Eu following the reaction {sup 110}Pd({sup 37}Cl,5{ital n}){sup 142}Eu at 160 MeV. This is the first case to be found intermediate to the {ital A}{similar to}135 and {ital A}{similar to}150 regions. The {ital scrI}{sup (2)} dynamic moment of inertia remains remarkably constant, suggesting that the configuration is {pi}6{sup 1}{nu}6{sup 3}, blocking both proton and neutron band crossings. The band has been estimated to have {similar to}3.6% of the channel intensity. This is remarkably intense, and is possibily due to a lowering of the odd-odd configuration by a strong residual {ital n}-{ital p} correlation.
