Light-front sum rules

Sum rules for inelastic electron scattering from a composite system are derived within the framework of light-front dynamics. The underlying assumptions are similar in spirit to those used to derive the nonrelativistic Coulomb sum rule. The light-front sum rule yields parton model sum rules in the limit that the constituents are structureless Dirac particles. The connection to the Coulomb sum rule is discussed.
