8 to 17% price hikes loom for buyers of Canadian gas

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

The Canadian government has approved a price increase on exported gas that will mean an 8 to 17 percent increase for US users and will probably accelerate the substitution of competitive fuels. Pacific Gas and Electric Co. plans to apply for permission to pass on the increase to its customers, a step already taken by Northwest Natural Gas of Portland. Relief requests will vary according to the share of Canadian gas relied upon by a utility. Midwest users are expected to feel the increase by spring, but statewide impacts will be minimal. (DCK)
