This paper reports on experimental studies that were carried out on turbulent heat-transfer enhancement by a single circular cylinder near a flat plate. The measurements were performed under free stream velocity conditions of 3, 10, and 15 m/s and cylinder diameters of 3, 5, and 10 mm, and the effects of free stream velocity, cylinder diameter, and the position of the cylinder in the boundary layer on the heat-transfer coefficient were investigated. The measured turbulent heat-transfer coefficient was correlated by the Reynolds number for the cylinder and by the clearance between the cylinder and plate. This correlation agreed well with the other experimental data obtained under different conditions.
