A two-day hearing held in July, 1980 heard testimony from 14 witnesses representing gasoline dealers, oil companies, and the State and Federal agencies responsible for the gasoline-allocation program. The committee heard evidence about gasoline lines and complaints from all concerned that the program had made the situation worse. The economic impact on independent fuel marketers and gasoline-station owners and the lack of incentive for major oil companies to comply with the system were of particular concern. Witnesses spoke of the inadequacy of the program to cope with supply disruptions and to preserve competition within the industry during a disruption. (DCK)
