This paper experimentally models, under laboratory conditions, the absorption of Mn-54, Co-57, Nb-95, Zr-95, and Ce-144 from ocean water by plankton and planktonic detritus. The experiments were carried out in a marine laboratory during the 25th voyage of the scientific research ship Dmitrii Mendeleev in the Indian Ocean. The radionuclides studied are not identically absorbed by the plankton; Mn-54 and Ce-144 were the most intensively absorbed. The comparatively small amounts of Co-57 and Nb-95 absorbed by the plankton during its active life was maintained at almost the same level as the organisms died off and decomposed, or at least in the first stage of the latter process.
