Title: SOME INVESTIGATIONS ON THE PREPARATION OF CARRIER-FREE Mn$sup 54$ AND A MIXTURE OF THE CARRIER-FREE COBALT ISOTOPES Co$sup 56$, Co$sup 57$, AND Co$sup 58$ FROM IRON (in German)

Journal Article · · Kernenergie (East Germany)
OSTI ID:4728055

The Mn.sup 54/ produced in the irradiation of iron with 13.5Mev deuterons in the Rossendorf Cyclotron was separated carrier-free by ion exchange from the radioisotopes Co/sup 56/ Co/sup 57/, and Co/sup 58/ after extraction of most of the iron with ether. The ion exchange resin SBW was suitable with elution with strong HCl. First manganese was eluted, and then cobalt, and the residual iron remained in the column. The Mn/sup 54/ and the Co isotopes were obtained in yields of more than 95%. From measurements of the gamma dose output and evaluation of the gamma spectra, data on the activities arising were obtained and compared with values from the literature. The gamma dose output constant of Co/sup 56/ was calculated from known data on gamma and positron radiation to be 19 r/hr. (tr-auth)
