Energy efficient and competitive commercial design

Journal Article · · Heat., Piping Air Cond.; (United States)

An energy efficient yet competitive commercial air-conditioning design at the Grosvenor Center in Honolulu is presented. Design considerations--the desire for airy, light effects created by a totally reflective surface--are related to air-conditioning design. The water chilling plant is studied. The outdoor air precooling unit fan stops after hours, as does each floor's air handling unit (though after hours use can be preprogrammed at tenant's expense). The electricity consumption in the Center is reviewed. A high receptacle load due to computer use by tenants is discovered, though the overall energy averages are reasonably good.
