A statement from presidential science advisor George Keyworth outlined the administration's goal of establishing priorities for science within the reality of limited economic resources at the beginning of a two-day hearing. Other witnesses spoke of the needs and values of programs at various research institutes and laboratories, universities, and the Department of Defense. Spokesmen also addressed the importance of science in terms of economics, education, and manufacturing. Two appendices with additional material for the record follow the testimony and statements of the 12 witnesses. (DCK)
