Commercial building retrofits

Journal Article · · Sunpaper; (United States)
OSTI ID:5554572

It is stressed that retrofits should be used only after energy conservation measures have been installed (weatherstripping, use of waste heat, thermal insulation, daylighting and vestibules). South facing masonry walls may be converted to Trombe walls at a reasonable cost ($5/ft/sup 2/). Examples are given, even in cases where walls are not masonry. Direct gain, by adding south-facing glazing or addition of sunspaces or greenhouses, is discussed and examples are provided. Daylighting by the addition of clerestories is illustrated. The addition of an active solar system for space heat or domestic hot water is also considered. 3 references. (MJJ)
