The US Energy Information Administration reports that the all-out pace of drilling has produced additions to US oil and gas reserves during 1980. Based upon Form EIA-23 data from 2130 operators of oil and gas wells and 796 natural gas processing-plant operators, the survey indicates the following proven reserves as of Dec. 31, 1980: crude oil, 29.805 billion bbl, down 5 million bbl (0.017%) from 1979's 29.810 billion; natural gas, 199.021 trillion CF, down 1.976 TCF (0.98%) from 200.997 TCF; and natural gas liquids, 6.728 billion bbl, up 113 million bbl (1.7%) from 6.615 billion. Although oil and gas reserves have dropped, the declines were less than 1%, in contrast with the large declines of recent years.
