Worldwide report: oil reserves reduced, but production climbs

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6527798

Oil and Gas Journal reports that despite shifts in worldwide oil politics toward increased government intervention, oil production hit a record high of 60 million bbl/day in November 1976. The contribution from non-Communist countries was 52.8 million bbl/day, 65% of which was produced by OPEC members. Total crude-oil reserves declined from just under 658.7 billion bbl reported in 1975 to 598.9 billion as of January 1977. Total gas reserves, however, rose to over 2304 trillion CF from last year's 2232 TCF, due primarily to additions by the Soviet Union. Reserves statistics, tabulated by global region for all producing countries, indicate only proved reserves recoverable with today's technology at current prices.
