A multiple rubber cup packer is mounted on a tubular mandrel suspended from the lower end of a tubing string. Steam is passed downward to rise upward from beneath and heat and set the rubber cups of the packer. Slips suspended from the packer are expanded automatically by upward movement of the packer produced by the steam, thereby locking the packer against vertical movement in the casing. (3 claims)
