NRC implementation of Vogtle Unit 1 readiness review pilot program

This paper discusses the implementation of the Vogtle Unit 1 readiness review pilot program of readiness review in general, and, more specifically, discusses the process by which it was performed, and a summary of the results of the program. The Georgia Power Company (GPC) review process addressed the four functional areas of civil, mechanical, electrical (including instrumentation and control), and plant operations. The NRC and GPC evaluations of this program were under way at the time this paper was developed. However, there are a number of lessons learned as a result of performing the Vogtle readiness review pilot program. Examples of some of these are given.
