Elastic-plastic fracture mechanics

Book ·
OSTI ID:5532097
The great research efforts devoted to elastic-plastic fracture mechanics are justified by the importance, for reasons of safety and economy, of assuring the integrity of cracked structures made of ductile materials. The elastic-plastic regime is more complex than the linear elastic one since cracks may grow by stable tearing and there are several possible failure paths. This book contains the lectures and workshop problems of the 4th Advanced Seminar on Fracture Mechanics. The authors are experts in the field, and their papers discuss the use of crack characterizing parameters and local criteria, measurement methods, micro-mechanisms, calculated aspects and design methods.
