A 2,355 ft/sup 2/ house constructed for $90,000 in Chapel Hill, NC, utilizes a modified Trombe wall for winter heating and summer ventilation. The house is triangular in shape with a south side Trombe wall incorporating 8 collector bays and one bay of regular windows which provide additional light and heat gain. The Trombe wall is a 12-inch insulated brick wall covered with black corrugated metal and double glazed. Operable windows, wall vents and an attic fan provide ventilation in the summer when air conditioning is required about 10% of the time. The collector wall operates as a thermal chimney in summer and provides heating in winter. The house was constructed with high levels of insulation and has an open interior design that assists in heating with the Trombe wall.
