We have succeeded in preparing a new layered cuprate compound with the composition Ti{sub 2}(Ba{sub 2}Gd)(Gd, Ce){sub 2}Cu{sub 2}O{sub y}. From X-ray diffraction patterns, its space group I{sub 4/mmm} and cell parameters a=3.883 {angstrom}, c = 36.972 {angstrom}(x=1.0) have been determined. The structure of the compound can be viewed as an alternating stack of a double Ln{sub 2}O{sub 2} fluorite layer and a quadruple layer containing a double M TiO{sub 3} perovskite layer joining two CuO{sub 5} pyramidal layers. Although it contains complete CuO{sub 5} planes as in high-T{sub c} cuprates, resistance measurements showed that the samples were semiconductive.
