Throughout the history of arms control and disarmament negotiations, verifying the implementation of agreed measures has been, and continues to be, one of the more important and controversial issues. While insisting on acceptable procedures for verification for treaties on the control and disarmament of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, governments do nothing to formulate such procedures. This book presents an overview of the mechanism for effective verification, with specific reference to the technical possibilities which already exist.
