Location and design of washeries with consideration of safety engineering and protection of health

In the design, construction and operation of washeries the National Coal Council of Britain gives particular attention to problems of safety engineering and protection of the health of the operating personnel. There are 204 washeries under the administration of the National Coal Council. The yearly investment in the construction of new and reconstruction of old washeries comprises 40 million pounds. The project work related to the creation of new plants or reconstruction of existing ones should include the following subjects: general labor conditions, lighting, dust levels, noise, temperature conditions in work areas, building design, and environmental protection. The legislative act on safety engineering and protection of the environment passed in 1974 provided for development of stricter standards concerning certain aspects of plant design.
