I present an update on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements taking into account the current experimental and theoretical information on weak decays. The resulting fit is combined with the measured value of the [ital B][sup 0][sub [ital d]]-[ital [bar B]] [sup [bar 0]][sub [ital d]] mixing ratio [ital x][sub [ital d]] and estimates of the pseudoscalar coupling constants to determine the allowed range of the [ital B][sup 0][sub [ital s]]-[ital [bar B]] [sup [bar 0]][sub [ital s]] mixing ratio [ital x][sub [ital s]] in the Standard Model (SM). For the central values of the parameters used we find 8[le][ital x][sub [ital s]][le]24. Flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) [ital B]-decays are briefly reviewed; in particular the role of such decays in determining the CKM matrix elements [ital V][sub [ital td]] and [ital V][sub [ital ts]] is emphasized on the example of radiative [ital B]-decays, [ital B][r arrow]([ital X][sub [ital d]]+[gamma]) and [ital B][r arrow]([ital X][sub [ital s]]+[gamma]).
