Using multidetector spectrometer angular distributions of elastic scattering and inelastic scattering (2.429 MeV) of ..cap alpha.. particles on /sup 9/Be are measured between 13/sup 0/--177/sup 0/ in steps of 2.5/sup 0/ at E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 23.1 MeV. The angular distribution of the elastic scattering at large angles obviously reveals an anomalous behavior. The experimental data of this work as well as that of the other authors at different energies (E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 23.8 26.6, and 28.0 MeV)= are analyzed by the Regge pole model. Reasonable agreements are obtained for all cases. The result shows that in this excitation energy range for the /sup 9/Be, there exists a resonance sequence, which varies smoothly with the angular momentum l. According to this model, the reaction mechanism of the anomalous process is seen to be a kind of intermediate resonance. Thus, the Regge pole model could be extended to a nucleus as light as /sup 9/Be.
