Kaon-nucleon sigma term

The status of the calculations of the kaon-nucleon sigma terms is examined. Theoretical estimates are presented, based on the (3,3*)direct-sum(3*,3) mechanism of chiral symmetry breaking taking into account the violation of the Okubo--Zweig--Iizuka rule. An estimate of the kaon-nucleon sigma terms in the framework of the optical model for K/sup +/-nucleus scattering is also given.
