Data from a triggered hybrid bubble chamber experiment for the unusual hadronic process, ..pi.. + p ..-->.. K + K - ..pi.. + p at 11.46 GeV/c, are presented and discussed. The cross section for this reaction was found to be 84.9 +- 7.9 ..mu..b. Resonance production of ..delta.. ++ (1232), f(1270), A/sub 2/(1310), and K*(890) dominate this interaction. Additionally, the sharp onset exhibited in the (K/sup +/,K/sup -/) threshold indicates the production of S*(980). Data from this experiment as well as data from an untriggered experiment for the reaction, ..pi.. + p ..-->.. ..pi.. + ..pi../sup -/..pi../sup +/p, were applied to a coupled channel analysis of pion-pion scattering for the energy range from 600 to 1400 MeV. Both energy independent and energy dependent parameterizations were developed; the former using phase shift and inelasticity parameters in T-Matrix amplitudes, and the latter adopting a K-Matrix formalism. Experimental angular distributions were fitted with a maximum likelihood technique. The amplitudes determined in the analysis were used to extract phase shifts, inelasticities, and pole positions for each partial wave. Resonance parameters found for the S*(980) wre, m/sub S/* = 986 +- 3 MeV/c/sup 2/ and GAMMA/sub S/ = 56 +- 4 MeV/c/sup 2/, and for the epsilon(1300), m/sub epsilon/ = 1374 +- 10 MeV/c/sup 2/ and GAMMA/sub epsilon/ = 304 +- 18 MeV/c/sup 2/.
