Evaluation of air assay media by the monodisperse DOP (dioctyl phthalate) smoke test

Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5505965

A dioctyl phthalate (DOP) smoke test is described. A monodispersed aerosol of 0.3 ..mu..m diameter is continuously generated, and a metered portion of this DOP aerosol is drawn through a specimen. With aerosol generation stabilized, a linear forward-scattering photometer is used to measure aerosol concentration both upstream and downstream of the specimen under test. The method is useful for evaluating the efficiency of depth filters, membrane filters, and other particle-collecting devices used in air assay work.
