Corporate energy conservation programs made in a crisis atmosphere of the 1970s are undergoing a transition to energy strategic planning. This requires new managerial techniques to develop opportunities that will increase energy efficiencies. These opportunities include process improvements and the application of proven technologies. A total energy management program which is an integral part of day-to-day business management and strategic business planning will maximize the cost-effective benefits of these opportunities. The author outlines the steps that make up energy strategic planning, which include realistic goal setting and interactive management. 8 references.
