US Environmental Protection Agency issues notice of its comments on the US Department of Interior's Environmental Impact Statements

The US Environmental Protection Agency issues notice of its comments on the US Department of Interior's Environmental Impact Statements on proposed alternative crude oil transportation systems to serve refineries in the Northern Tier states. The projects which EPA has determined to be environmentally safe are the Northwest Energy Co. Alaska Highway oil pipleline from Delta Junction, Alaska to Edmonton, Alberta; the Trans Mountain Pipe Line Co. Ltd. oil pipeline from Low Point, Wash., to Edmonton, Alberta; and the Northern Tier Pipeline Co. oil pipeline from Port Angeles, Wash., to Clearbrook, Minn., which was approved by the Carter Administration. Deemed to be environmentally unacceptable are the Kitimat Oil Pipeline Co. Ltd. oil pipeline project from Kitimat, B.C., to Edmonton, Alberta, and the Northwest Energy Co. Alaska Highway oil pipeline project from Skagway, Alaska, to Edmonton, Alberta.
