Selective solution of binary eutectic alloys: Zn-Cd and Zn-Pb

This paper discusses the selective solution (SS) of the electronegative component (NC) from a binary eutectic alloy formed from components which are mutually insoluble in the solid state, under diffusion-kinetic control. The SS of eutectic alloys Zn-Cd and Zn-Pb is investigated. The authors show that diffusion of ions of the NC in a porous surface layer, formed by solution of eutectic cells of the NC, has a limiting influence on the SS current.
