Title: Service of periclase-chromite refractories in burning of portland cement clinker in rotating kilns

Journal Article · · Refractories (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5500002

A method is developed of production of periclase-chromite refractories containing highly refractory calcium silicates as the ceramic binder. Production instructions for the production of periclase-chromite clinkerresistant parts for lining of rotating cement kilns have been formulated and approved. The experimental lining was used under intensive conditions. A table presents the change in chemical composition of the refractory after service. Chemical analysis established penetration into the refractory of the oxides of calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, and silicon. Investigations of the refractories with a calcium containing addition after service in the sintering zone of a rotating cement kiln make it possible to assume that the addition of calcium oxide to the finely ground component of the refractory charge reduced the intensity of its chemical interaction with the cement clinker, which causes an increase in the service life of the lining.
