This paper studies the ESR of sodium zirconium silicate glasses (SZSG) and glass fibers (SZSGF) with additions of 0.2 to 0.5% Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and 0.5% CuO (mass parts added to 100) in order to determine the change in the valence state of the Cr ions. Also studied is the effect of composition on the structural reorganizations in a Na/sub 2/O-ZrO/sub 2/-SiO/sub 2/ matrix when a monolithic glass is made into a fiber as well as a demonstration of the effect of composition on the character of the structural anisotropy in SZSGF. The compositions of the experimental materials, the diameter, the drawing temperature and the heat treatment regime of the SZSGF are given. It is established that the accumulation of 3d/sup 1/ ions in sodium zirconium silicate fibers is intensified when compositions with a low value of the ZrO/sub 2//Na/sub 2/O, a smaller fiber diameter, and higher drawing temperature are used.
