This paper reports that based on performance in a variety of commonplace and difficult pipe line applications over the last two years, pressure point analysis (PPA) is becoming recognized as a significant leak detection tool. PPA is a method used to detect leaks on gas, liquid and some multi-phase flow pipe lines that analyzes data taken at a single measurement point. The method is packaged for small lines and within a larger system called LeakNet for major pipe line applications. Three applications are particularly interesting. First is a crude oil pipe line in Bahrain that has unusual topography. The second involves an ethylene line that is interesting because of historical difficulties experienced with leak detection in ethylene applications and the third is a three-phase flow application on a California offshore system.
