US price trends and the special exposure of refiners

Journal Article · · Energy Detente; (United States)
OSTI ID:5495408
Since July 1990, the oil market has punished the U.S. refiners with the cost of operating in a free market. Briefly benefitting from the speed of refined product passthrough of higher crude oil costs, refiners have generally failed to realize adequate value. They have even lost the refuge of comparatively stable long-term contract prices. This issue updates general refining margin indicators since the invasion of Kuwait. This issue also presents the following: (1) the ED Refining Netback Data Series for the US Gulf and West Coasts, Rotterdam, and Singapore (October 5 and October 19, 1990); and (2) the ED Fuel Price/Tax Series for both the Western and Eastern Hemispheres, October 1990 Edition. 9 figs., 10 tabs.
