The recovery of oil from a subterranean formation by an aqueous flooding fluid is described. More particularly, the injectivity index of an injection well, through which an aqueous fluid is introduced into a formation, is maintained relatively constant during the injection of the flooding fluid. In one aspect, there is described in this method the use of a water-soluble hydrosulfite salt, e.g., sodium hydrosulfite, in the aqueous fluid entering the formation from which oil is produced.
