Describing wear life of bonded solid lubricants by laboratory methods

Conference · · American Society of Lubrication Engineers; (United States)
OSTI ID:5488436

In order to investigate the tribological properties of bonded solid-lubricant films, a test and a test procedure were developed using a ring/block-system as test specimen. As test lubricants, bonded solid films were prepared containing MoS2, graphite and Sb(SbS4). Two- and three-component systems were formulated containing optimum concentrations of these components with regard to wear life. Measuring wear life over load and wear life over speed, so-called wear life curves were developed characterizing the wear life behavior of the lubricants. It will be shown that Sb(SbS4) can improve the tribological properties of MoS2/graphite systems remarkably. 5 references.
