Economic influences on the history and development of the mining joint venture as a vehicle for hard mineral exploration and development
A restucturing of the mining industry is anticipated as a result of economic pressures on mining during the 1970s and as a part of the evolution of business arrangements among those engaged in mineral development. The discussion, limited to workable deposits, shows that new business entities such as joint ventures are introduced as economic realities change. The latest arrangements reflect higher prices and the availability of energy minerals. The legal implications of joint ventures in resource exploration and development are shown to still be controlled by partnership principles. An energy-minerals model examines energy-demand predictions and utility role prior to 1970 and in a joint venture, suggesting modifications to deal with some of the legal problems of adjusting to new objectives. 87 references.
