A new marine magnetometer for pipeline location and sea floor reconnaissance consists of an existing magnetometer design updated with all solid-state electronics, digital displays, and binary-coded decimal outputs. Significant improvements in field performance have been made through the incorporation of sensor depth display and tow cable interchangeability. These design criteria are in direct response to continuous feedback to the design engineer from field operations personnel.
