An investigation was made of the dissociation of uranium hexafluoride gas at room temperature in pulsed infrared (lambdaapprox. =16 ..mu..) and ultraviolet (lambdaapprox. =0.34 ..mu..) laser fields. Under the selected experimental conditions (on exposure of UF/sub 6/ and a UF/sub 6/--H/sub 2/ mixture to infrared and infrared + ultraviolet radiation), no isotopic selectivity was observed to within the accuracy of the mass-spectrometric analysis of the residual UF/sub 6/ in the cell after irradiation.
