Research has indicated that Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L.) is just as sensitive to certain types of air pollution damage as other plants and in addition has many advantages over annuals. There is a striking tree-to-tree variation among white pines in resistance or susceptibility to air pollution. This variation means that several clones of different sensitivities might be used to supplement instruments and obtain a better analysis of pollution than some instruments would provide alone.
