The differential cross sections for scattering of 99 MeV /sup 7/Li ions from targets of /sup 12/C and /sup 58/Ni were measured at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility. The cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering from the first excited state of /sup 7/Li on /sup 12/C were obtained over an angular range of 6.5/sup 0/ to 53/sup 0/ (LAB) in steps of approx.1/sup 0/. The cross sections were measured for the same states for /sup 58/Ni over a range of 6.5/sup 0/ to 57.2/sup 0/ (LAB) in approx.1/sup 0/ steps. The cross sections ranged over seven to eight orders of magnitude, being largest at the forward angles and with superimposed oscillations for angles out to approx.50/sup 0/. Optical model analyses with Woods-Saxon form factors were performed and compared to the /sup 6/Li scattering from the same targets at the same energy by Schwandt et al. The /sup 58/Ni data can be fit quite well with only small adjustments to the /sup 6/Li nickel parameters, while the /sup 12/C data required a Woods-Saxon squared shape in order to produce a reasonable fit. These /sup 7/Li scattering data have also been analyzed with a double-folding real potential which employs the nucleon-nucleon potential of Bertsch et al.
