Accumulation of dietary polychlorinated biphenyls (Aroclor 1254) by rainbow trout

Journal Article · · J. Agric. Food Chem.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5482416

A gas chromatograph equipped with an electron capture detector determined the accumulation of Aroclor 1254 from a dietary level of 15 ppm in a mt. Shasta strain of rainbow trout. The relative PCB concentration in the fish stabilized while absolute quantities increased as the fish grew. Total PCB retention from the diet was 68% for a 32 week feeding period. The fish did not appear to be adversely affected by the PCB's and no mortalities were attributed to PCB toxicity. (6 graphs, 26 references, 4 tables)
