The objective of EPRI Research Project 2328-4 was to investigate the feasibility of determining the electrical equivalent circuit parameters of induction motors using the standstill frequency response (SSFR) test. The SSFR test measures the impedance of the motor, with its rotor stationary, over a wide range of frequencies (.01 Hz to 500 Hz). The SSFR test was performed on induction motors with ratings of 1750 HP, 100 HP, 400 HP, and 300 HP. Equivalent circuits were derived for each motor from the test data. Reasonable agreement with manufacturer's performance data was achieved for three of the four motors tested, suggesting that the SSFR test can be useful in determining induction motor models. Where motor starting behavior is of interest, accounting for saturation effects was shown to be important. 10 refs., 46 figs., 9 tabs.
