Basic situations of the reflection seismic method may exist in data acquisition, data processing, and interpretation techniques. The authors discuss the data acquisition part of the method and in particular examine seismic-data acquisition using the Vibroseis system. Conoco's work on the development of the high-frequency vibrator is summarized, and examples are given of the use of high-frequency seismic data to define specific stratigraphic objectives. One example described is the seismic mapping of a coal seam at a depth of 530 ft.
