RefCOM commercialization program anaerobic digestion

The RefCOM Commercialization is the culmination of a developmental program initiated in 1975, which was funded initially by the Department of Energy and in later stages by the Gas Research Institute. The development program verified that the generation of methane gas from waste in a digestion process was of the same quantity and quality as established in laboratory testing. There were many process equipment designs established to optimize plant design. This resulted in establishing primary criteria for a commercial plant to utilize the RefCOM technology. The commercialization program consists of three phases: assessment (establishing the technology, economics and locale of a commercialization plant), negotiations (the selection and agreement with a community where the initial commercial plant may be constructed), and contract (entering into all final contracts necessary for the construction and operation of a commercial RefCOM plant.
